Delayed
May 23This post comes to you live from Liberty International Airport in Newark, NJ where my flight has been delayed… again. The nice folks in Norfolk got me up here on an earlier flight, turning my expected wait from 2 hours to 3 hours. After checking the board, not seeing my flight and then checking with a gate agent to confirm there were no earlier flights to Ottawa than the 8:00 pm one I was booked on, I checked the board again and discovered the Ottawa flight was indeed there, and already listed as delayed by 45 minutes. So I moseyed around, did a few things, and had some supper. Now, returing to a very convenient work station that reminds me of the cubicles we used to have at LCA, I check the flight status again and find it delayed even more — another 50 minutes to 9:35 pm. As it stands, I won’t be getting off the ground here until about the same time as I was supposed to be landing in Ottawa!
And the reason for this delay? According to the airline’s flight status page, “Delayed – Awaiting inbound aircraft.” That’s right, I can’t go home because somewhere else, the plane that I’m supposed to get on is experiencing some difficulty getting here to pick me up. So what does this all mean? Well, as it just happens, at church right now we are doing a series called One Team. As Pastor Barry was speaking last Sunday, he referred to Ephesians 4:16 which reads talks about the church as a “body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.” Basically, the church (people, not a building) is like a body, and each one of us are like the parts of a body. If one of us is not doing our part, or not serving in our place, then the body as a whole does not function properly. Just like my flight. Someone has worked hard putting together the schedule for the flights so that I could get from one place to another and know when I was going to get somewhere, but because this one plane is not fulfilling its part properly, for one reason or another, there is now a chain reaction of delayed flights, and I get home late. Of course, it also gave me enough time to think about it and come up with this, so I guess it’s not all bad!
And speaking of One Team, with Anaheim defeating Detroit last night, we now know who the Sens will be taking on for the cup! Duck Hunt anyone? GO SENS GO! May you get better flights than me!
